INTRODUCTION TO EUCHARIST
By Scott Wall
As part of our worship today, we gather around the table. The practice of the Eucharist is important to our community because it puts the person of Jesus, the work of Jesus, and the presence of Jesus at the centre of our gathering. It is fitting that we gather around this practice today because, on this weekend where some families get together and our culture offers a tweet or status update in vague appreciation for life's bright moments, we too join our voices in thanksgiving. The word Eucharist, after all, roughly means 'thanksgiving'. By coming to the table, we offer our lives...in whatever state they are, to our gracious God. And at the table we receive bread and wine as sacraments of God's great goodness and generosity. Whether we come with joy today...or loneliness, or pain...we offer thanks for Christ's real and transforming presence here with us.
With this in mind, I invite us to say these words of thanksgiving together.
Leader: Shout for joy to the Lord all the earth
Everyone: Worship the Lord with gladness
Leader: Come before Him with joyful songs
Everyone: Enter His gates with thanksgiving and with praise
You are invited to the table of thanksgiving today
THANKSGIVING PRAYER
By Kevin Borst
Almighty and gracious Father, we give you thanks on this day.
All blessing we have comes from you. Teach us to be a reflection of the blessing and grace that you show us.
Thanks be to God,
Amen.
