EUCHARIST INVITATION

Written By Bobbi Salkeld

Our faith is full of fragments.

Favourite verses in the bible. Brief encounters in creation that make us ask, “Woah was that God?” Of course, the elements of a little bit of bread and a little bit of wine offered as a remembrance of the meal Jesus ate with friends before he died.

And you might think, “There is no wholeness to my faith. Only fragments.” But then you come to the communion table where our fragments meet eternal presence.

Love enough for everyone.
The community of the saints to assure us we never worship alone.
And the presence of Christ here in the sacrament that we share.

The Spirit works with our fragments. The sacrifice of bread can sustain you; grape crushed becomes your joy.

Hear the invitation to the meal.

Come to this sacred table, not because you must, but because you may;
Come to testify not that you are righteous, but that you sincerely love Jesus Christ and desire to love God more;
Come not because you are strong, but because you are weak;
Not because you have any claim on the grace of God, but because in your frailty you stand in constant need of mercy and help;
Come, not to express an opinion, but to seek God’s presence and pray for God’s Spirit.

Whatever the form of your prayer,
Trust that you are forgiven.
Trust that you are loved.
Trust that God works with the fragments in your life.

Offer that assurance to one another from your hearts as we eat together - this is a community meal and our companions are diverse - both in the room and at home.

Christ has died,
Christ is risen,
Christ will come again.

Please be seated, consume the cracker and juice, remember to put your mask back on, and join back in the singing when you are ready.

Thanks be to God. Amen.
