EUCHARIST INVITATION
Written by Scott Wall

As part of our liturgy today, we come now to the Eucharist meal.

It is offered at an open table where all are welcome. In a moment, I’ll invite you to make your way to the front to receive the elements.

But first, we take a moment to consider the meaning of this practice. Because this meal has always been a central pillar of the Christian church.

In it, we remember Christ’s invitation to his friends and followers…and we extend it to one another.
In it, we recall Christ’s final sacramental words around that shared table…where everyday things were named as the carriers of Grace. Jesus took bread and said - This is my body, given for you.

Jesus took wine and said - This cup is a new expression of God’s love for you.

Which means that as we come - receiving both the elements and one another here - we enact something our world sorely needs - Welcome to all worn down by darkness, fear, and sorrow.

So hear this invitation.

Come, not because you’ve earned the right, but because room has been made for all.
Come, not to claim some status…but to express your desire to change.
Come, with hope that God’s mercy is great.

Now — grant us grace as your guests, Risen Christ.
Bless the fruit of field and vine,
And make us new, we pray.
