A REMEMBRANCE DAY PRAYER FOR PEACE
Written by Larissa Amour

In just a couple of days, on Remembrance Day, our nation will observe moments of silence in honour of the soldiers and souls victimized through conflict and war.

As we pray, if a specific name, place or cause is placed on your heart - hold onto that. This prayer is for them.

I invite you to join me, to join each other, as we pray St. Francis of Assisi’ prayer for peace before taking time to reflect on the world we live in today.

Let us pray:

Lord, make us an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that we may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

I invite you now to bow your heads and settle into this quiet spirit-filled space, in remembrance of victims, and in response to Christ’ clear invitation towards peace.

We pray for the people of Iran
Who lead with courage and commitment towards the promises of peace and stability.
We lift up Mahsa Amini, and all who continue to grieve the imagination that our lives are worthy of protection.
Have mercy on the ones who believe their sacrifices were made in vain;
Lord hear our prayer for all who struggle to make our world just.

We pray for the people of Ukraine
May your swift hand of mercy comfort and protect the men, women and children who’ve endured the collateral damages of unending wars and conflicts.
May we respond with similar zeal to campaign for their liberty, their rights, and their flourishment.
Lord hear our prayer for all the lives unjustly sacrificed in the name of war.

We pray for the people of Nigeria, Haiti, the DRC and so many others,
The many generations who face displacement, famine and disease, abandoned by the government and abused by the powers of corruption and greed.
We lift up these communities who’ve never known a day without struggle and lack.
Lord hear our prayer for all the lives who’ve grown too accustomed to weariness.

Loving God, we pray that your love will continue to guide us all towards peace.
In your name we pray,
Amen.
