ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING LITURGY
By Bobbi Salkeld

Today is the third Sunday of Advent.

The word “advent” is the beginning of the word “adventure.” At this halfway point in the season, we sense the mood of our anticipation shift toward joy.

We are rejoicing in the miracle of small changes.
We are rejoicing in the practicality of mutual care.
We are rejoicing in the fulfillment of our deep desires.

It can be easy to feel some confusion between Advent's space for sorrow and the Christmas push for happiness. Let our Advent joy be sturdy.

Let laughter be your guide.

Today we light the third candle of Advent: the candle of Joy.

Let us pray.

God of all who anticipate,
give us your joyful word for our soul this Advent.
In our adventures, big and small, enliven our lives with joy.
Let us be bringers and receivers of divine delight.
Amen.
