Truth & Reconciliation Day

Ahead of this first Day of Truth and Reconciliation, we encourage our community to use the day to listen to the stories of Indigenous people, learn about the history of our nation and complicity, and to work for reconciliation with our neighbors.

Creator God,

Help us to know ourselves as people of the land, made in your image, sustained by your creation, blessed by its liveliness.

May we learn the language of the animals, the sweetgrass & sage, the river and mountains—conversing with them, listening to their sacred voices.

May we continue to turn to original inhabitants of this land, those who know and sense the deep sacredness of all creation.

In this lesson on creation's reciprocity, may you arise in us newfound respect and responsibility to flourish alongside all.

Spirit God,

Guide us to be active participants in the Shalom of our communities.

Not turning our eyes from the hurt and brokenness, but rather listening to the voices, meeting the unmet needs, striving for equitable healing.

From broken treaties and covenants, Lord, we give thanks for the gift of reconciliation instead of revenge. Accountability alongside opportunities of healing. In this lesson may we never cease seeking Harmony on earth as it is in heaven.

Healer God,

Help us to always be moved by these wooden poles binding us together, reimagining what your dwelling place looks like.

Noticing that the Spirit of the living Christ is found within us and can be brought forward in every place and person we encounter.

We thank you today for the invitation to the community of shalom—a place for everyone, where each member is known by name, loved unconditionally, and cared for justly.

In this lesson on Christ our Lord, may we mirror your compassion and mercy, answering the call towards kinship.

Amen.
