We're 10! And so much more.
Jeremy Duncan
As I write this, we’re in the final stages of preparing for our 10th-anniversary celebration at the Jack Singer Concert Hall on September 8. It will be an incredible day, and with a thousand of you already reserving your tickets, it promises to be quite the celebration. If you haven’t secured your spot yet, now’s the time! :)
One of the things I’m most excited about is seeing the entire Commons community gathered in one worship service for the first time since our very first Sunday. So many of you have been part of this journey, and I can’t wait to witness us all together again.
It’s hard to believe a decade has passed since this community came to life in 2014. Over these ten years, we’ve seen countless stories of people rediscovering faith, healing from religious trauma, and finding freedom in centring their lives on Jesus. All of this has been possible because of God’s grace expressed through the lives of those who gather and call themselves Commons Church.
But it’s not just Commons that has grown over these past ten years—I have too. Back in 2014, Rachel and I were in our mid-thirties, moving into this neighbourhood for the first time with our one-year-old in tow. I had some big dreams but no experience leading a faith community. Yet, this community, with its kindness, ambition, and commitment to an intellectually honest and spiritually passionate presence with Jesus at the centre, has been willing to embrace and chase those dreams.
It’s been an incredible journey with so much to be thankful for, but this is just the beginning. As we enter our eleventh season, exciting possibilities are on the horizon. A new journal is on the way, new series are planned, and more milestones, baptisms, and meaningful conversations await us. And yes—we even have a few surprises in store.
Here’s to a second decade. We’re so glad you’re here.
See old friends.
Make new ones.
