Summertime at Commons
Bobbi Salkeld
The weather is warmer, the lilacs are in bloom, and we're thinking about summer at Commons. Here are a few things to track with this summer, plus a prayer. Enjoy!
Summer Teaching: Be inspired.
Every summer we rotate our teaching voices through each series. This gives the team time to be away and lets you hear from us more personally. There are two series, and both reflect on summer spaces.
Inside Out is a series about our relationship with "home." Outside In is about our relationship to the world outside our front doors. Remember, you can always catch up on the messages you miss on our YouTube channel or the Commons podcast.
Teams: Make new friends.
Summer is a great time to get the ball rolling and join a team or try a different team. One of the reasons we're nudging you this early, before the fall, is to stack the teams before the 10th Anniversary Service on September 8 at the Jack Singer.
In particular, we're looking for Connection Team (greeting and welcoming) and Kids Team folks (the team that makes a difference in kids' lives). Check out role descriptions and sign up here.
Stampede!! Join the block party.
Finally, mark your calendars for July 7 and jump in to be a part of the Commons Stampede Breakfast. It takes a hundred volunteers to make it happen yearly, and it's a ton of fun.
You can join a greeting, cooking, kids, production, set-up/teardown team here. We can't wait to party with you in your cowboy hats (you'll wear one, right?).
Finally, a Summer Prayer.
Spin Yourself in Dizzying Circles
It strikes me
that we twist ourselves
into tangles
trying to crack the mystery
of God.
We ask —
What does God want?
What does God say?
When will God appear?
Why can't God do it?
Where was God when it happened?
It's fine.
Ask your questions.
Spin yourself in dizzying circles
then fall on your back.
Dig your fingers into the earth.
Look up to the heavens
and remember.
This is home.
You're not going anywhere.
Get used to not knowing
everything.
Enjoy your summer!
Bobbi :)
Join the Stampede Breakfast Team to be a part of the block party on July 7, 9am-noon. All are welcome.
