Groups and dinners.
Groups.
We believe that church is about so much more than just listening to someone talk. Sundays are a great time to come together and learn, but if we leave it at that, we’re missing out on a lot and so Groups are vital to the life and health of our church.
One of the best things about groups is that they create space for meaningful connection and conversation outside of Sunday service. Some of the groups we have are long-term - when a group of people commits to journeying together for 6 to 12 months or longer. Some groups are short-term - when people come together for 4-5 weeks to explore a topic or follow a sermon series. And some groups are drop-in - those are open for people to join based on availability and interests.
Groups are about sharing life together. Our hope is that wherever you live, work and do life, your Group can exist in that same space so there is always room for finding the right affinity mix. Commons has groups meeting in different neighbourhoods all over the city and now we also have online options for where ever you are.
Conversation over monologue.
Dinners.
"A meal savoured with other glorious image-bearers does not save the world, but it helps restore our hearts in order to keep moving through it."
- D.L.Mayfield
Good things happen over food.
Dinners are informal gatherings that give a bit more space for people from Commons to connect beyond Sundays. They have no agenda other than to get people together for connection. Good food, good conversation, and new relationships are our priorities.
Dinners are hosted by community members, and feasting together takes all kinds of forms. "Dinners in" - when a host invites people over to their house and makes a meal for them, "dinners out" - when a group of people connect at a restaurant or pub to have a conversation and choose their own meals. Dinner can be a potluck, a backyard BBQ, a make-your-own pizza adventure, a vegetarian or vegan meal, or a wine and dessert night.
