WORSHIP ELEMENT
Eucharist Invitation

Written by Bobbi Salkeld

Ritual is a part of our everyday lives. We begin the day with ritual: the ringing of an alarm, the brushing of our teeth, the brewing of great coffee.

Daily rituals place us in the world, set us up for the day, develop children as they grow. Communion - the Eucharist meal - is ritual, too.

As we take part in the sacrament handed down to us through the centuries, we are shaped by this ritual.

A table that includes friends and enemies.
Grains and grapes crushed to provide sustenance.
The elements ingested to remind us that Christ lives in us.

Hear this invitation:

This is the table of God,
We are gathered to this meal,
A foretaste of things everlasting.
Come, when you are fearful, to be made new in love.
Come, when you are doubtful, to be made strong in faith.
Come, when you are regretful, and be made whole.
Come, old and young,
There is room for all.

PRAYER

Loving God,
We thank you that you nourish us at the Eucharist table -
A table where all are welcome,
A table where you transform our brokenness into beauty,
A table that turns away violence and insists on grace.
We pray for those who hunger and thirst -
May we all be filled in every good way by you.
Come, Holy Spirit
Empower us with your love
Inspire us with your life.
AMEN.
