RESPONSIVE PRAYER

Written by Scott Wall

Today we gather - in person, and online - in the season of Ordinary Time. Which is the longest period in the Christian calendar - meant to open us up to the Divine around us in the rhythms and efforts of our daily lives. And the truth is that so much of what we might have been ordinary in our experience has changed. Which is why today I invite you to join me in a responsive prayer for ordinary times.

Let us pray.

Creator God -
Source of all the good that comes to us.
Birthing hope in unseen places, unexpected encounters, and under the nose of our regular routines.
Present to us in each everyday moment, we ask

Open our eyes - and keep us along the way

Gentle Christ -
Spark of all compassion that comes to us.
Bringing solidarity for life when it’s not what we want it to be.
Divinely human, you care for us in all now overturned, dark, and unfamiliar
And so we ask

Open our eyes - and keep us along the way

Revolutionary Spirit -
Catalyst for all justice and longing for change around us
Ever pulling your world toward a new ordinary
Moving us from fear, lack and suspicion toward a world divinely filled
With regular courage, and love, and faith
And with these we ask

Open our eyes - and keep us along the way
Amen.
