ADVENT LITURGY
By Bobbi Salkeld

On the fourth Sunday of the Advent season, the beginning of the church New Year,
we pause to trace our Advent journey. We’ve been waiting for Jesus’ coming,
we’ve been waiting for his hope, love, and joy. Today we focus our hearts on God’s holy announcement – the angel annunciation declaring that a new revolution was dawning. We hear the words of the prophet Isaiah carried through centuries, wrapped-up with new meaning,
and spoken to Mary:

Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign:
The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son,
and will call him Immanuel.

The fourth candle of Advent is the angel candle of peace.
As we light this candle we pray:
Peace-giving God, we thank you for calling Mary.
We thank you that you still call each one of us to carry your life and to give birth to your peace. We welcome the surprise of your coming, the revolution of your Church,
and the never-ending life we find in you.
Amen.

PRAYER
Paraphrased Prayer by Louie Giglio
Father, we are here waiting for You. With hearts and hands open to Your purposes and plans.
In your advent give the patience we so desperately need and lead us in the waiting.
In our saviour Christ’s name we pray,
Amen.
