A PRAYER FOR ORDINARY THINGS
By Scott Wall
Creator God -
You are source of all, and this is why we sense your goodness in all we feel today.
In bodies refreshed by summer sun.
In bodies that carry and support us through stress, illness, and fatigue.
In our bright emotions, sparked by play and work and pleasure.
In vulnerable emotions, that remind us we care, that we have needs, that it’s okay to rely on others.
Be present to us in these ordinary things.
God we know in Christ -
You are friend to all, and this is why we sense your goodness in all we see today.
In kind faces that assure us we belong.
In relationships that keep us honest.
In community that helps us grow and flourish.
In peaceful homes and streets.
Be present to us in these ordinary things.
God that is Mystery and Spirit -
You are working through all things, and this is why we look for goodness in all that comes to meet us.
In our plans to withdraw, and rest, and recover.
In new opportunities and unwanted change.
In long-held dreams we’ve worked for.
In the chance to serve someone in meaningful ways.
In the version of ourselves we aspire to be.
Be present to us in these ordinary things.
And let all we feel, all we see, all we encounter lead us further into Grace that does not fail.
Or let us go.
Amen.
