PRAYER OF CONFESSION
By Bobbi Salkeld

We begin with the first movement: go into yourself.
We pause to take notice of where we feel anxious, sad, or unsure.
And we ask ourselves, with the help of the Holy Spirit,
where do I need to be a little more honest today?
Is it in confessing my need?
Is it in an apology I’ve left unsaid?
Is it in the impatience I’ve shown toward myself?
Is it in the frustration I feel toward others who are trying their best?

Loving God,
you do not turn us away.
In the shadow of your wings,
we are safe.
Help us to be at peace with ourselves, and to love one another.

We take a moment with the second movement: go into nature.
We think back to the beauty we passed by this week: on our way to church, in a city park, on a hike with friends, in our own backyards and on our balconies.
The earth always holds us, gives us gifts of light and dark, food and drink.
And we ask ourselves, with the help of the Holy Spirit,
how can I pay attention to the world I live in?
Is it in the way the earth never takes more than it needs?
Is it in the way branches let go of leaves, and there are things I can let go of in this season too?
Is it in the way the cooler air of the fall reminds me of my vulnerability and need?

Loving God,
You do not turn us away.
In the shadow of your wings.
we are safe.
Help us to be at peace in the world, and to love all you have made.
Amen.
