EUCHARIST INVITATION
By Bobbi Salkeld

Today is the Reign of Christ Sunday – the final Sunday of Ordinary Time before Advent begins next week.
I love the contrast between Reign of Christ and the season of Advent. From the height of divine power, we run headfirst into the humility of God in human form.
And so we approach the Eucharist ritual with all of our highest highs and lowest lows. Can we imagine how God is present in all of life, and still a presence we wait for?

Listen to the story of the Lord’s Supper.

On the night that Jesus was betrayed, he ate a meal with friends.
While they were eating, he took a piece of bread, said a blessing, broke it, and gave it to them with the words, “This is my body. It is for you. Do this to remember me.”
Later, he took a cup of wine, saying, “This cup is God’s covenant, sealed with my very life. Drink from it, all of you, to remember me.”

And so your invitation is this:
The God of all hospitality invites you to the Eucharist ritual.
May you know the reign of divine presence through an incarnate humble path.

Let us pray.

Creator God, present at this meal,
The bread that we break and the cup that we share
are places where our Saviour meets us.
Broken, we are being made whole.
Poured out, we are filled with joy once again.
Holy Spirit, bless these elements.
Amen.
