ADVENT CANDLE LIGHTING LITURGY
By Bobbi Salkeld

Today is the fourth Sunday of Advent.

The word “advent” means “approach.” Our attention to the world attunes our need for approaching peace.

We are working for peace where there is oppression.
We are working for peace where there is injustice.
We are working for peace where there is disturbance.

It can be easy to think that we are waiting for God to fix everything, but Jesus’ approach reminds us of glory’s participation in all that God has made.

Join with God’s peace in the renewal of all things.

Today we light the fourth candle of Advent: the candle of Peace.

Let us pray.

God of all who work,
give to us your peaceful word for our soul this Advent.
May our peacemaking be active and always-growing,
as we anticipate a world of restorative wholeness.
Amen.
