RESPONSIVE READING

Maybe you know Dorothy Day, and maybe you don’t, but there’s no denying that she was a spiritual giant.
Dorothy Day gave her life to justice and the poor for much of the twentieth century. Her love for Jesus, lived out in community, was authentic and radical with its challenge.
It’s our worship practice at Commons to incorporate the words of our faith ancestors. To remember that we stand on the shoulders of giants, and their words inspire us still.
Today, I invite you to a responsive reading shaped with the words of Dorothy Day. Together we’ll affirm that love is the solution to every problem that comes up (maybe you carry a problem with you right now). I will read the words that say “leader”; please join me with the words for “all.”
If we love each other enough, we will bear with each other’s faults and burdens.
If we love enough, we are going to light that fire in the hearts of others. And love will burn out the sins and hatreds that sadden us.
LOVE AND EVER MORE LOVE
IS THE ONLY SOLUTION TO EVERY PROBLEM THAT COMES UP.
It is love that will make us want to do great things for each other.
No sacrifice and no suffering will then seem too much.
LOVE AND EVER MORE LOVE
IS THE ONLY SOLUTION TO EVERY PROBLEM THAT COMES UP.
Our prayer from day to day is that God will so enlarge our hearts
that we will see all, and live with all, in God’s love.
LOVE AND EVER MORE LOVE
IS THE ONLY SOLUTION TO EVERY PROBLEM THAT COMES UP.
AMEN
