Sevenpm Check-In

Landon Buckley

I (Bobbi) checked in with Landon, the Sevenpm Host, about how the year has been at the Commons evening service. Here are some things you might not know about the service, and what people are getting out of it.

How is Sevenpm different from the morning services?

While the general outline of worship and a message every week is the same, Sevenpm is different from other services in that we gather around tables during the service to draw people’s attention to each other.

In that, we have a few differences. We participate in the Eucharist together every week. During the message, we have a portion called Table Talk, where everyone gets a couple of questions to discuss around their tables. Finally, we wrap up Q&R after the message.

After that, we have what we call the Afterparty at the church. We have snacks and encourage everyone to stay and chat. Or, we head to Two House, a local brewery in Sunalta, to continue the conversation there.

How do these differences add to the community at Sevenpm?

These are all small actions that turn people towards each other and lay the groundwork for deeper community involvement.

Who would we love to see at Sevenpm?

Sevenpm is for everyone, but our priority has been to create a space where young adults connect.

Commons does a great job of working with youth and making sure they feel as though they have a place to belong, and we want to ensure that that extends past high school.

We want to make a place specifically for those in their late teens, early twenties, and young professionals. We’ve been seeing a desire for genuine connection.

What are other people saying about their experience at Sevenpm?

I feel like I can come as I am. Because it’s an evening service, I feel like it’s very communal. I can come in and really connect with people and with God. – Elsa

I like the laid-back environment. – Rowan

The people who come really consistently come so it’s easy to build community. – Jocelyn

What is one highlight for you personally about being the Sevenpm host?

I’ve seen people walk in alone for the first time to a service, and by the end of the night, they are connected in community. I think that’s beautiful.

How can other people at Commons support the Sevenpm service even if they never attend?

If you know people who would be a good fit for Sevenpm, tell them about it! You can find out more and check out the Q&R from Sevenpm right here.

We are deeply grateful for your prayers and care for Sevenpm.

Sevenpm runs every Sunday night from September to the end of May and relaunches with the university semester every fall. We’ll wrap May 26 and be back on Sept 15.
