Dig Into Big Ideas at Commons

What's new at the 7 PM service? We're here to tell you.

After taking a 7 PM pause for the summer, we return to gathering in the evening starting on Launch Sunday, Sept. 10, with a 7 PM launch party

The service will still have what you love about Commons, but we are making some tweaks we’re excited about.

Here’s Jeremy to tell you a little more about the 7 PM service:

The roots of Commons start on Sunday nights. In 2014 it was a group of young adults who had been meeting on Sunday nights and exploring new ways of doing church. They met and merged with a local church here in Kensington to launch Commons.

And now, for season ten, we are reinventing Sunday evenings again. We’re stripping down our service so we can build something fresh. A new vibe, more dialogue, and questions and responses. We’ll launch with the university semester this month, and we hope you join the conversation.

We’ve invited Landon Buckley to join our staff team as the 7 PM host. He’s been hard at work this summer meeting 7 PM folks, getting to know Commons better, and dreaming about what’s possible this fall.

Here’s Landon to tell you about himself:

I moved to Calgary from Abbotsford when I was young, and since then, I’ve grown up here, graduating from St. Mary’s University with a Major in English and a Minor in Catholic Studies. This fall, I’ll be starting my Masters of Divinity at Ambrose.

Outside of school, I’m on staff with an organization called Young Life, working with youth here in Calgary, and in my spare time I can be found playing music, writing, or playing D&D with friends. I’m excited to get to know so many more people in the Commons community at the 7 PM service this year!

Here’s Kevin to tell you more about worship and some new things you can look forward to:

We are approaching this service totally differently, hoping to provide an experience unique to the 7PM community. In our imagining, our goal has been that each service element focuses on community and belonging.

We hope all who join us will experience this!

It feels like 7 PM is a brand-new start in many ways. There's a lot of energy in thinking about what this service can uniquely be to Commons.

As usual, we'll be back to meeting up at Two House Brewery after the 7 PM service starting Sept. 17. This is a great way to bring the weekend to a close and make some new connections.

If you plan for the 7 PM to be your service or sense a stirring to try it out, consider joining a team to get more involved and to support the community that gathers on Sunday nights.
