Lesson 2: Jesus is arrested.
Passage: John 18:1-27 - Jesus is arrested after Judas leads soldiers to him in the Garden of Gethsemane. When they come for him, Jesus identifies himself, causing them to fall back. He also stops Peter from violently resisting. Jesus is then taken for questioning while Peter follows from a distance. In the courtyard, Peter denies knowing Jesus three times, just as Jesus foretold, and a rooster crows. Meanwhile, Jesus is questions about his teachings and is struck by an officer before being sent to the high priest.
Big Idea: Jesus loves us no matter what.

The leader will go first to show them what to do. They will stand up, pick and emotion from the bowl, and act out the emotion. The children will then point to the picture of the emotion they are feeling.
Kids will take turns acting out the emotions and returning their slips to the bowl after they are done their turn.
Preliminary Discussion — Bible Story Leader

Follow Up Discussion — Bible Story Leader
What happened when Jesus was in the garden with his friends?
What did Jesus’ friend Peter do when he was being arrested? And how did Jesus react?
How many times did Peter say he didn’t know Jesus? Why do you think he did that?
Did Jesus still love Jesus even after he messed up? Do you think God also forgives us when we mess up?
Prayer — Bible Story Leader
Dear God, thank you for loving us no matter what, just like Jesus loved Peter even when Peter messed up. When we make mistakes, you still care for us and give us second chances. Help us to be brave and follow you every day even when it’s hard. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Activity: Collage Cut Out — Activity Leader
Kids will create a collage with coloured paper on the inside of the card, so that when they close the card, they see the colour through the pre-cut shape. Kids can also write on the front of the card (eg. To mom, I love you, Happy Easter, etc.)
If a child is not interested in the activity, allow them to move to free play.
Dismissal: Collect tags and make sure each child leaves with their caregiver.
