Session 4
IN THIS LESSON:
We explore the book of Revelation and compare the difficult and often violent imagery to the Jesus we encounter in the Gospels.
Contrary to popular belief, Revelation is not a forecast of future destruction but a vision revealing Jesus’ nature and God’s ultimate goal of peace and renewal. The apocalyptic imagery, such as the rider on the white horse, symbolizes Jesus’ non-violent victory through self-sacrifice rather than force, with the blood on his robe representing his own sacrifice rather than his enemies’.
The session challenges interpretations of Revelation as endorsing divine violence, presenting it instead as a critique of systems—political, religious, and economic—that harm creation. The narrative reveals God’s wrath not against individuals but against what destroys the earth and humanity.
