RESPONSIVE READING
Written By Bobbi Salkeld

On the fifth Sunday of Lent, we inch even closer to Holy Week. And yes, this is a Lent season unlike any other Lent season. I invite you, through a responsive reading, to remember our bigger story of Christ drawing near to us in our suffering, in our worry, in our isolation.

Jesus, you walked toward Jerusalem
To restore our vision of community
To restore power in pronounced humility
To restore a kingdom of never-ending love
May we be open to your restoration, and to the restoration of each other.

Jesus, you prayed in the garden of Gethsemane
To invite tenderness when we are sorrowful
To invite trust when we face hard times
To invite contemplation in the place of our fearfulness
May we be open to your invitation, and to the invitation of each other.

Jesus, you took up the cross
To transform violence into goodwill
To transform pain into perfect healing
To transform our prison into the freedom of God’s pure love
May we be open to your transformation, and to the transformation of each other.
AMEN.
