EUCHARIST INVITATION
Written by Yelena Pakhomova

One traditional Eucharistic prayer for Easter goes like this:
"The joy of the resurrection renews the whole world."
And the season of Easter gives us fifty days to live into this joy.

We set aside this extra time to pay attention to the divine breath in us.
To listen for the quiet whisper of hope in the moments of fear.
And to practice resurrection in the uncertainty of each new day.

And so today we gather as we are,
in our homes,
around our tables,
alone or with others,
to share the Eastertide Eucharist.
The meal that invites us to step into new life.

"When it was evening on the first day of the resurrection, and the doors of the house where the disciples had met were locked for fear, Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you.”

Hear this prayer by Padraig o’Tuama as invitation to the meal before you.

Jesus,
Our dead and living friend,
We walk the ways of death and life,
holding fear in one hand and courage in the other.
Come find us when we are locked away.
Come enliven us.
Come bless us with your peace.
Because you are the first day of creation
And all days of creation.
Amen.

May the risen Christ meet you at your table today and give you peace.

And so, we turn to the elements you have prepared for yourself and those with you today at home.
Maybe you have some bread or crackers; maybe grapes or juice, or wine.
Whatever you may have,
Here is the blessing for your elements:
God of all grace,
Saviour of the world,
Spirit of life.
Bless our tables.
As we break the bread and lift the cup,
May we be one with all who share this meal,
Untied in your life in every place,
And wrapped in the joy of the resurrection.

As you take the bread and hold it in your hands,
Or pass it to those who are with you,
Remember that this is Christ's body
Given for you to make you whole.
Please join me as we eat.

As you lift the cup or prepare to crush the grape in your mouth,
You are joined with Christ,
And nothing can separate you from God’s love.
Please join me as we drink.

Let us pray.
Loving God,
We thank you for the gift of this sacred meal that we've shared together,
For the peace you give when our hearts are restless,
For your faithful love that never gives up on us.
Help us to live our lives
in resurrection-shaped gratitude and joy.
May we know the living Christ this week and always.
In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit,
Amen.
