A LITURGY FOR LISTENING

Written By Bobbi Salkeld

Take a deep breath as we pray together.

Let’s begin with ourselves -
The mess of feelings and emotions,
We name and navigate every single day.
Every emotion we feel is a teacher.
There to tell us what matters, what needs our attention, what God has made us for in the first place.

With careful self-reflection, we pray,
Spirit within -
Speak, and we will listen.
Bring us together, and we will love.

Let’s turn our attention to others -
The spaces between us that require great care:
For conflict, for insecurity, for needs that go unmet.
Every relationship echoes divine communion.
Here to challenge, to inspire, to help us grow in wholeness with God and one another.

With care for relationships, we pray,
Christ beside us -
Speak, and we will listen.
Bring us together, and we will love.

Finally, we turn our attention to all of creation -
The systems of our the cosmos that keep us alive:
Breathing on this planet, exploring our limits, and at the mercy of our interconnectedness.
Every system in nature evolves towards openness to life in the future.
Everywhere reminding us that we belong to one another, a part of a blessed whole.

With care for creation’s gifts, we pray,
God over us all -
Speak, and we will listen.
Bring us together, and we will love.

AMEN
