REMEMBRANCE DAY PRAYER FOR PEACE
Written By Bobbi Salkeld with words by St. Fancis
With Remembrance Day coming up this week,
we hear an invitation to pray for peace.
And more, to consider how we can live more peacefully.
Please join with me as we prayerfully remember victims, traumatized persons, and soldiers of conflict and war. May we imagine and work for a world where Jesus’ love shows us how to live and belong together.
Let us pray:
All over the world, in times past and present, there have been struggles for power and justice.
In peace and in war, God, you are near.
We know that there are countless women and men who have paid for that struggle with their bodies and lives.
We do our best to remember those who were and are forever changed by violence, trauma, and death due to conflict and human struggle. We lament the abuse of power, the disruption of community, and the fear of the other that tramples the vulnerable and ignores the cry for peace.
In this moment of silence, we remember and lament together.
And now, we consider how we might take action to work for peace.
If we have power, Jesus show us how to share it.
If we have peace, Jesus show us how to uphold it.
If we have resources, Jesus show us how to share them.
Now we pray this prayer of St Francis.
Lord, make us instruments of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let us sow love,
Where there is injury, pardon,
Where there is doubt, faith,
Where there is despair, hope,
Where there is sadness, joy.
O Divine Master, Grant that we may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
It is in dying that we are born again To everlasting life.
Amen.
