ALL SAINTS’ DAY PRAYER

Written By Scott Wall

Loving God -
That we glimpse in Jesus - Even as Light streamed out into the world as your followers and friends remembered what you said, how you’d laugh and cry, how you loved -
So too does our remembering do the work of holding mystery and matter.
Where, with sickness, death, and mortal limits all around us, we carry this tender promise -
That in you our lives, our loss, our aching - can find reprieve.
In dying returned to earthen rest -
In memory alive in glory.

Even now, we pause -
Letting faces come to mind.
Of those we’ve loved, we’ve known, we’ve held.
Knowing you hold them still.
Even as you shelter our hearts from crashing grief and loss -
Inviting us into the spiritual act of memory as prayer -
Joining with the chorus of those we’ve lost, in quiet refrain.
In dying returned to earthen rest -
In memory alive in glory.

Even as, today, we look back across space and time -
To the out-stretched pathway of our faith.
Where mothers and fathers found their way -
And still illuminate ours -
With hope born from remarkable lives - and simple ones -
Saints known, saints remembered, and saints nameless to all but you.
With them, let us be found -
In dying returned to earthen rest -
In memory alive in glory.

Amen.
