A Prayer for the Start of Summer

We pray for the blessing of play to be found —
At water parks
On first dates
In wide open spaces
On forrest paths
Watching rain make pathways down window panes
On bike rides and camping trips
Playing bocce in the grass with friends.

We pray that the blessing of belonging to be found —
In backyards and gardens
Around campfires
At summer camp
Serving at Stampede Breakfast
Gathered around picnic tables
In line for ice cream
Floating alone in a lake

We pray that the blessing of restoration to be found —
In chill hang outs
With new connections
In renewed summertime romance
While dancing in the kitchen after dinner
At Shakespeare by the Bow
Sipping iced coffee
Reading a book in the dappled shade of an elm tree

Maker of play,
Christ of belonging,
Spirit of restoration —
There is so much we need
and so much we already have.
Make us grateful and engaged, we pray.
