PRAYER FOR CHILDREN
Written by Bobbi Salkeld & Scott Wall

Loving God,
I’m reminded of a moment from a couple weeks ago
where I sat in a cafe, watching a toddler
run around the room under the tender eyes of a caregiver.
Exploring, climbing, giggling, playing hide-and-seek -
Exchanging glances and smiles with strangers - and with me -
Fully alive in your world. And maybe that’s something we can all connect with -

The image of children being children
and how this arrests us - and awes us - and stills us.

And so today, we pray for the children in our lives.
For those we worry about,
For those learning in their own way,
For those who are ill, or who struggle, or who face obstacles in getting their needs met –
God, you know each one —

We pray for the children in our lives.
Those starting new adventures, and learning important lessons.
Discovering what and who they love - and a deeper sense of who you’ve made them to be -
Making crucial choices, shaping their futures every day –
God, you light their way —

We pray for the children in our lives.
For those that need protection and nourishment,
For those that need attachment and community to guide them,
For those seeking hope and meaning today –
God, you love each one -

And so we pray. Have mercy — give each one what they need.
Amen.
