A BLESSING FOR A NEW YEAR

As we sit, just a couple of days into 2022, we contemplate our relationship with the marking of time. 

It’s a new day. 
A new week. 
A New Year. 

Maybe you love the start of a New Year, maybe you don’t really care about the calendar’s turning. Either way, it is good to pause and go inward, to be frank about the harshness of any year, and to trust in God’s ever-present love. 

Join me in a blessing for the New Year. Really, this is a blessing for you. 

For the parts of this New Year that will … 
Feel hard
Seem dark
Humble you 
Challenge you 
Or cause you pain 

May you pay attention to what is below every struggle 
See your resilience
Notice the strength that you already possess
Trust in your own beloved-ness 

Do not keep your blessings
But give them away
God leads you into life

For the parts of this New Year that will …
Ignite joy
Deepen your humour 
Surprise you with awe
Stretch your abilities 
Settle you with contentment 

May you pay attention to what is below your happiness 
See your worthiness 
Notice the gifts that are well within your reach 
Trust in your own beloved-ness 

Do not keep your blessings
But give them away
God leads you into life
