MOTHER’S DAY PRAYER
By Scott Wall

Mothering God,
We thank you for the many ways the word mother has found meaning in our lives
The ways we’ve been nurtured when we needed comfort and safety.
The ways we’ve received unconditional love
from tired, reluctant and weary people.
We’re thankful for how our mothers show us their vulnerability and strength. We thank you for the many forms a mother takes,
In aunties, cousins, sisters and friends
who fill gaps when necessary,
For adopting and fostering moms -
Giving care and presence so desperately needed.
Mothers who wear the hats of caregiver, protector, teacher and confidant.
We give thanks for how our mothers live with courage in the face of uncertainty.God, today especially we ask for your peace
For moms who've experienced loss -
For children who've experienced loss -
For those with strained maternal relationships -
For those redefining motherhood on their terms, and reflecting your heart -May this be a moment where love and tenderness blossom,
Where we sense the care you birthed all things with.
Mothering God, Hear our prayer,
Amen.
