EUCHARIST INVITATION

Together we receive the invitation from Christ our host at this meal -
Where, in the same way as the night of his betrayal, he makes room for the fearful, the hurting, the doubting.
The places in each of us strained and weighed down from all our living.

And as we come we remember that in the bread Jesus took and pulled apart and shared, we receive as gift God’s solidarity with all our brokenness. So too we remember that in the remnants of crushed grape that Jesus served and shared, we receive a new life born from God’s love poured out — a love that still flows to the deepest and darkest places we find ourselves. Christ - as host and herald of all newness.
The truest sign to us that the roots of our being are ever held in God’s goodness —
A clear example that there is a better and more peaceful way to be human.One we discover as we lay down harshness, self-critique, our sharpest differences with others - finding and extending the welcome around this open Table.

Each of us invited not because we must come, but because we may.
Taking these elements not because we hope to earn God’s favour, but because - maybe in new ways today - we see God’s love clearly in Jesus. Drawn not because we deserve these gifts, but because we want to trust them.

In just a moment, I’ll invite you to take a seat. As you sit here [or at home], pause for a moment…be still with the elements.

Let words form in your heart and mind — of thanks, of need, of kindness and care for some thing you carry with you today. I’ll give you some space to reflect and take the elements before offering a prayer.

Prayer:
Welcoming God -
Fill us now with simple bread and wine.
Fill our searching and our seeking —
Fill our longing and hoping —
Be near to all who hurt, and grieve, and ache today.
And we ask,
Come, and let us be caught up in your Love shared with all
Let us carry it gently into each new day.
We pray, in the name of Christ, our host —
Amen.
