Lesson 6: Jesus heals a man born blind.
Passage: John 9:1-12 - In this story, Jesus saw a man who was born blind. His disciples assumed that the blindness was caused by sin, and asked Jesus who it was that sinned, the man or his parents. Jesus told them that their assumption was wrong, but that this particular man’s blindness happened so that God could show God’s power and goodness through him. Then Jesus healed him by putting mud on his eyes and telling him to wash it off in a certain pool. When his neighbors saw that he was healed, they were surprised, and he proclaimed to them that it was Jesus who had healed him.
Big Idea: Jesus makes things right.

Follow Up Discussion — Bible Story Leader
How do you think the blind man felt when everyone thought he did something bad?
Why do you think Jesus wanted to heal him and help him see again?
When something bad happens to us, even though we didn’t do anything wrong, what can we do? Who can we talk to?
What are some ways we can help a friend who is going through a hard time?
Prayer — Activity Leader
“Dear God, thank you that you are a good God who loves us. Sometimes bad things happen and it’s not our fault, but we know that you care about how we feel and you want to help us, just like you helped the blind man in the story. Thank you that we can talk to you whenever we’re feeling sad or going through a tough time and you always listen to us. Please help us to be a good friend to others too. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Prayer — Bible Story Leader
“Dear God, thank you that you are a good God who loves and cares for us, and who wants to help us in our difficult situations, just like you helped the blind man in the story. Thank you for all the times when you have turned bad things around into something good, but we also know that that’s not always the case, and sometimes we can’t see any light in our situations. In those times, we know that you are still there and you still care for us, even when it doesn’t feel like it. Please help us through those hard times, surrounding us with people who love and support us, trusting that you are the light even in the darkness. In Jesus name, Amen.”
