EUCHARIST INVITATION

Written By Bobbi Salkeld

Hear the story of Jesus’ last meal. A moment when Jesus prepared his friends for what was ahead: faithfulness and betrayal, struggle and service, life and death.

Among friends, gathered around a table,
Jesus took bread,
And, having blessed it,
Broke the bread - baked from harvested grains.
Then Jesus gave it to the disciples, saying,
‘This is my body which is given for you.

In the same way, Jesus took the wine - crushed from the grape.
And, having given thanks,
Jesus poured it out
And gave the cup to the disciples, saying,
‘This cup is the new relationship with God,
Sealed with my blood which stands for life.’
Take this and share it.
In other words,
Heal the world with me.

This is your invitation.
Come to this sacred table, not because you must, but because you may;
Come to testify not that you are righteous, but that you sincerely love Jesus Christ and desire to love God more;
Come not because you are strong, but because you are weak;
Not because you have any claim on the grace of God, but because in your frailty you stand in constant need of mercy and help;
Come, not to express an opinion, but to seek God’s presence and pray for God’s Spirit.

Whatever the form of your prayer,
Trust that you are forgiven.
Trust that you are loved.
Trust that you belong.

Offer that assurance to one another from your hearts as we eat together - this is a community meal and our companions are diverse.

Christ has died for us all,
Christ is risen,
Christ will come again.
