IN THIS LESSON:

We explore spiritual formation in parenting, emphasizing the importance of addressing personal religious experiences and trauma to effectively guide children’s spiritual growth.

This session defines religious and spiritual trauma, highlighting their potential cognitive, emotional, and social impacts. Trauma is framed as a wound rather than the event itself, offering hope for healing through reconnection.

Practical approaches for spiritual formation include engaging in self-reflection to identify personal beliefs and values, practicing self-compassion, and fostering trust in oneself and in God’s ability to reveal Himself to children. Parents are encouraged to validate children’s spiritual experiences, allow for exploration, and promote curiosity and wonder.

The session also suggests integrating faith practices into family rhythms, such as observing Christian calendar traditions like Advent and Lent, and participating in community-based religious experiences. It concludes by affirming that parenting is imperfect but impactful, and fostering a sense of connection and openness is foundational for nurturing a healthy spiritual life.
