IN THIS LESSON

We explore the challenges of parenting in a digital world, focusing on setting boundaries around technology and media use.

The facilitator highlights the addictive nature of devices, driven by dopamine release, and their impact on children, including increased rates of anxiety, depression, and self-harm. Social media acts as an “experience blocker,” disrupting developmentally crucial activities like play and face-to-face interaction.

Key strategies for managing device use include keeping technology out of bedrooms, delaying smartphones until ages 14–16, and co-watching content to foster connection. Parents are encouraged to model healthy tech habits and create media-free zones in the home. A secure attachment with children is emphasized as the foundation for establishing boundaries, using validation and open communication.
